In line with its mission to promote inclusive education and contribute to raising awareness about important social and psychological issues, the Faculty of Education at the University of Sciences and Arts in Lebanon (USAL) participated in the Autism Awareness event held at Adduha High School. The event aimed to raise awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with autism and to enhance social understanding and acceptance of them.
Mr. Issa Al-Moussawi, faculty member in the Special Education Program, presented an educational session titled “The Screen-Time Puzzle: Risks, Realities, and Developmental Impact,” in which he discussed the negative effects of excessive digital exposure on children’s development, with a specific focus on its impact on children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Mr. Al-Moussawi addressed the psychological and cognitive risks that can arise from prolonged screen use, as well as how this affects social interaction and communication abilities in children, particularly in the context of autism spectrum disorders.
The session included open discussions on how to reduce the negative effects of screen time and offered educational and therapeutic strategies for working with children in this context.
