The Speducators Club at the University of Science and Arts in Lebanon (USAL) organized an awareness workshop entitled “Childhood in Times of War – The Impact of War on Children’s Education and Mental Health” at the university’s activity hall. The event was attended by students, faculty members, and individuals interested in special education and mental health.
The workshop hosted psychologist Fatima Farhat, who delivered a comprehensive presentation on the psychological and behavioral challenges faced by children in conflict zones, and the impact of traumatic experiences on their emotional and cognitive development. She also discussed psychological and educational support strategies that teachers and caregivers can implement to help children overcome crises and enhance their sense of security and stability.
The workshop included interactive discussions between participants and experts, where best practices in dealing with children affected by conflict were exchanged, along with a case study highlighting the importance of early intervention and integrated psychological support.
The aim of this event was to raise awareness about the effects of war on children and empower participants to provide proper psychological and educational support, helping to reduce the negative consequences of war and promote a safer environment for children in affected communities.
In conclusion, participants emphasized the importance of such initiatives in spreading awareness of children’s mental health and expressed their eagerness for more specialized training workshops in the future.
