The team from the University of Sciences and Arts in Lebanon (USAL) achieved second place in the seventh International University Debate Championship in Qatar. The team, composed of students Rawan Harshi, Hiba Dahini, and Rowa Sharaf El-Din, represented Lebanon after qualifying at all stages with merit and distinction. Notably, this is the first time a Lebanese team has reached this rank, competing in the final round against the team from An-Najah National University in Palestine.

Additionally, student Rawan Harshi was awarded third place as the best speaker in the championship, while student Hiba Dahini ranked tenth. The final ceremony in the capital, Doha, featured cultural, academic, and social activities from various countries, attended by Lebanon’s Ambassador to Qatar, Ms. Farah Berri. The students received training on debate techniques and skills from Mr. Hassan Al-Husseini, the head of the Debate Dialogue community.

The team qualified last January in the “National University Debate Championship 2024 in Lebanon,” organized by the SMART Center in partnership with the Debate Dialogue community and in collaboration with the Qatar Debate Center. This enabled them to represent Lebanon alongside teams from the Lebanese University and the American University of Beirut, where USAL excelled and secured its spot to compete in Qatar, ultimately achieving second place.
