Creating and Activating Accounts on Automated Systems

Accounts will be created for you on both the UMS and Moodle, as well as the university’s Webmail, upon your joining the university community, whether as a faculty member or a student. These accounts are essential keys to the university’s electronic systems and automated services.

Password

Creating a strong password is important and sensitive, as it serves as the key to your activities and records on the university’s electronic systems. Therefore, the IT office recommends creating a strong password that is easy to remember but difficult for others to guess.

Creating a Strong Password

A strong password should have several characteristics that you can follow to create your password:

  • Use a long password with at least 10 characters.
  • Use at least 3 types of characters:
    • Numbers from 1 to 9
    • Uppercase letters (A-Z)
    • Lowercase letters (a-z)
    • Non-alphanumeric or numeric symbols (~!@#$%^&*_-+=`|(){}[]:;”‘<>,.?/)
  • Use a password that is easy for you to remember, such as one that has personal significance.
  • Avoid using easily obtainable information such as your name, birthday, child’s name, phone number, or other information that people who know you or that can be found on social media might know.
Changing Your Password

If you feel that your current password is insufficient or has been compromised, you can change it by sending an email to IT@usal.edu.lb. Note that to change the password for one of your accounts, you must know the current password you are using.

Resetting Your Password

If you forget the password for one of your accounts, you can visit the university’s IT services office to reset it. You will need to present your student ID for identity verification before the required reset is performed.
