The GPA (Grade Point Average) represents the students’ average performance in their studies over a specific period, which may be an academic semester, called the Semester GPA (GPA/Grade Point Average), or the Cumulative GPA (CGPA/Cumulative Grade Point Average), which is the students’ average over all the semesters they have studied.

The Semester GPA (GPA – Grade Point Average) is calculated for the student by dividing the total number of points they obtained in the academic semester (as shown in the table below) by the total number of credit hours for the courses they studied in that semester. It should be noted that the number of points the student obtained in each course they studied is the result of multiplying the number of hours of that course by the number of points corresponding to the grade the student obtained, as defined in the previous section.

(Total points corresponding to the final grade for each course) × (number of course credits) ÷ (total credits of courses). For example:
A student studied 3 courses (each course is 3 credits). They got a grade of 84, which is B, in the first course, a grade of 65, which is D+, in the second course, and a grade of 77, which is C+, in the third course. The Semester GPA (GPA) would be: (3 × 3) + (1.5 × 3) + (2.5 × 3) ÷ (9) = 2.33.

The table below determines the category the student obtains based on the final grades for the Semester GPA or Cumulative GPA.

GradeLetter Grade
4.0A
3.5B+
3.0B
2.5C+
2.0C
1.5D+
1.0D
0F

The calculation of the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) includes all the courses the student has studied in previous semesters, regardless of whether they passed or failed. However, support course grades, courses withdrawn from, and courses that have been exempted are not included in the CGPA calculation.
