As part of enhancing scientific research and providing academics with up-to-date knowledge, the Faculty of Education at the University of Science and Arts in Lebanon (USAL) organized an interactive seminar titled: “From Ethics to Oversight: The Development and Role of Institutional Review Boards (IRB) in Scientific Research.”
Ms. Abir Dakik, a member of the Biomedical Institutional Review Board (IRB), in collaboration with an academic team from the faculty, delivered a lecture on the development of institutional review boards and their vital role in ensuring the integrity of scientific research. The seminar was attended by an academic team from the faculty as well as other colleges and departments of the university. The seminar also addressed how these boards are formed, the criteria for selecting their members, and the procedures followed to evaluate research and ensure adherence to ethical standards while protecting the rights of participants.
The seminar covered the following topics:
- The role of research ethics committees in ensuring research integrity.
- The criteria for forming academic boards and the procedures followed.
- Protecting the rights of participants and ensuring their safety.
- The ethical responsibility of researchers when dealing with participants.
The seminar provided an opportunity to enhance understanding of the role of Institutional Review Boards (IRB) in maintaining research quality and protecting it from ethical violations.
