USAL and CRDP Present Lebanon’s New Educational Ladder

The University of Sciences and Arts in Lebanon (USAL) – Faculty of Education organized a national educational meeting on the new educational ladder for the revised curriculum in Lebanon, held on the university campus. The event was attended by the President of the Pedagogical Research and Development Center, Professor Hyam Issaak, as well as a number of secondary school and public and private school principals, in addition to educational and union leaders and various academic and educational figures.

The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the University Board of Trustees and General Director of the Al-Mabarat Charity, Dr. Mohammad Baqer Fadlallah, the University President, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, members of the University Board, and several professors and education stakeholders.

The Dean of the Faculty of Education, Professor Walid Hammoud, opened the meeting with a speech in which he emphasized that the university “does not see itself outside the national path of educational development, but as a key partner in shaping it,” noting that the new educational ladder requires rethinking the roles of the school, teacher, and evaluation. He added:
“The new ladder does not merely redistribute grades; it rebuilds the relationship between educational time and learner development and makes the school an institution that interacts with society rather than being isolated from it.”

For her part, the President of the Pedagogical Research and Development Center, Professor Hyam Issaak, stressed that the educational ladder forms the structural foundation of the revised curricula approved by the official educational authorities. She noted that it is based on educational equity, competencies, pedagogical differentiation, and smooth transitions between stages, pointing out that:
“This ladder reflects a modern national vision for the Lebanese school, a school that teaches thinking rather than rote learning, and provides students with real opportunities for growth and development.”

Issaak also highlighted the role of universities in supporting educational reform, stating:
“We value USAL’s partnership and its hosting of scientific discussions that support curriculum development. The success of educational reform depends on the integrated efforts of universities, the pedagogical center, schools, and the Ministry.”

The meeting included a detailed scientific presentation by Professor Samar Zeitoun, an expert in preparing the educational ladder at the Pedagogical Center, in which she discussed the organization of educational cycles, the concept of the guided remediation year, and mechanisms for linking academic and vocational tracks.

The discussion session was moderated by Mr. Faiz Jaloul, Principal of Imam Al-Hassan (A) Secondary School, during which a broad dialogue took place between attendees, Professor Hyam Issaak, and Professor Samar Zeitoun regarding the requirements for transitioning to practical implementation and ways to support schools during this phase.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the University of Sciences and Arts in Lebanon presented special acknowledgments to Professor Hyam Issaak and Professor Samar Zeitoun, in recognition of their valuable contributions and role in supporting curriculum development and education in Lebanon.

This meeting is part of a series of initiatives organized by the Faculty of Education at USAL, aimed at strengthening national partnerships to modernize Lebanese schools and build an educational approach that aligns with modern learning paths.
