The University of Sciences and Arts in Lebanon -USAL launched the “Leaders Against Drugs” project under the patronage and presence of Minister of Health Rakan Nassereddine, at the university campus in Ghobeiry.
The national initiative aims to empower young people and raise awareness about the dangers of drugs through training programs that prepare university students to conduct educational awareness workshops in schools and secondary institutions.
The ceremony was attended by MP Fadi Alameh, University President Dr. Mohammad Reda Fadlallah, Mayor of Ghobeiry Ahmed Al-Khansa, Mayor of Burj Al-Barajneh Mustafa Harb, Deputy Director General of the Islamic Health Organization Engineer Malik Hamzeh, representative of the Al-Mabarat Charity Association Mr. Bassam Al-Jouni, General Director of Bahman Hospital Mr. Ali Karrim, and Director of Esil Association Ms. Miliha Al-Sadr, in addition to municipal, educational, health, and social figures, school and secondary school principals, members of the administrative and academic staff, and a large number of students.
The University President emphasized that the project reflects USAL’s mission of preparing responsible and aware individuals capable of serving and protecting their communities, stressing that youth are the first line of defense and drivers of positive change.
Hamzeh highlighted the seriousness of the growing addiction phenomenon, considering early awareness the main pillar in confronting it.
Minister Nassereddine pointed out that addiction indicators among younger age groups are alarming, announcing the inclusion of mental health and addiction prevention programs in the ministry’s budget, along with improving contracts for second-category hospitals concerned with mental health services.
The ceremony included a promotional video about the project, a speech delivered by student representative Ali Ibrahim, followed by the distribution of certificates to graduates and honoring of project supporters and partners.
The project confirms USAL’s commitment to its community role in promoting prevention awareness and contributing to building a safer and more conscious generation.
