The ceremony opened with a speech by Dr. Mohammad Turaif on behalf of the university, in which he welcomed the attendees and emphasized that “the university is not merely walls and curricula, but a beacon that enlightens minds and shapes individuals, where thought rises, words flourish, and knowledge is forged as guiding light.” He also highlighted the vision of the late reference figure Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah, who regarded “knowledge not as a mere intellectual luxury but as a mission aimed at building both the individual and society.”
Dr. Ali Zaytoun noted that “writing about the resistant woman is not merely describing a social role, but illuminating a deep human dimension that combines values, thought, and literary creativity.”
Dr. Ahmad Nazzal, representing the Lebanese Writers Union, stressed the importance of this collaboration, saying “this gathering reinforces the integration between academic and cultural institutions and restores to literature its humanistic mission in defending the causes of the nation and humanity.”
MP Dr. Inaya Ezzeddine highlighted the significance of the book in showcasing the active role of Lebanese women in the struggle, emphasizing that “women are not only partners in sacrifice, but also creators of awareness and preservers of collective memory.”
The author, Dr. Fatima Youssef, explained that “the women in Ali Hejazi’s stories represent models of awareness, resilience, and commitment, reflecting the image of the resistant woman who confronts injustice with dignity and knowledge.”
In his remarks, Dr. Ali Hejazi, whose works were analyzed in the study, expressed his appreciation for the academic research, noting that “the critical reading presented by Dr. Youssef gives new life to the texts, reconnecting literature with its social and human context.”
