As part of its ongoing efforts to promote children’s literature and to enhance students’ creative writing skills in this field, the Department of Arabic Language at the Faculty of Education at the University of Sciences and Arts in Lebanon -USAL hosted Dr. Omaima Oleik in an interactive discussion session within the Children’s Literature course.
During the 90-minute session, Dr. Oleik shared insights from her experience in writing for children, highlighting influential authors in this domain and offering practical advice on how to create stories that balance entertainment and educational value. She emphasized the importance of developing content that responds to community needs and helps shape a child’s personality while fostering a love for reading from an early age. She also read excerpts from her stories to demonstrate the impact of children’s literature on young readers.
The session featured active participation from students, who asked questions about writing techniques for children and creative approaches to crafting stories that both engage and support the cognitive and behavioral development of young audiences.
Dr. Doria Farhat, the course instructor, welcomed the guest speaker and praised the importance of such sessions in broadening students’ perspectives and connecting theoretical knowledge with practical application to inspire creativity. The session was also attended by Dr. Mohammad Tarraf, Coordinator of the Arabic Language Program, who expressed his gratitude to Dr.Oleik for her valuable contribution and the enrichment she provided to the students’ learning experience.
