The University of Sciences and Arts In Lebanon (USAL) has launched its Debate Club in a ceremony attended by a number of academics and administrators, along with a group of students and enthusiasts of dialogue and debate. This initiative aims to promote a culture of constructive dialogue and enhance students’ critical thinking and persuasion skills.
During the event, the university’s debate team provided a comprehensive introduction to the concept of debates, highlighting their importance in developing students’ abilities in analysis, logical reasoning, and structured expression of opinions. The event also featured a friendly debate between the USAL debate team and the Lebanese University team, where both sides discussed a given topic in an organized manner, creating an engaging and interactive atmosphere among the audience.
The organizers emphasized that participation in the club offers students the opportunity to improve their research, discussion, and effective communication skills, in addition to preparing them for participation in local and international competitions. Workshops and training sessions will also be organized to qualify members and enhance their debating skills.
The Debate Club represents a valuable addition to student activities at the university, as it contributes to fostering a culture of dialogue, encouraging students to embrace diverse perspectives, and developing their public speaking and persuasion abilities. This, in turn, helps prepare an informed generation capable of engaging with various issues in a civilized manner
