Awareness Session for USAL Students on Bullying and Its Psychological and Social Impact

As part of the series of projects carried out by the students of the “Health Education” course at the University of Sciences and Arts in Lebanon(USAL), aimed at promoting comprehensive health awareness, USAL organized an awareness session during which students hosted psychotherapist Fatima Al-Khatib, who delivered an interactive lecture centered on the reciprocal relationship between an individual’s mental health and healthy social relationships.

The session addressed the issue of bullying, with Al-Khatib discussing its causes, various forms, and the negative impact it has on individuals’ psychological well-being, as well as the quality of their relationships within the family and the surrounding community.

Al-Khatib pointed out that bullying is not merely a temporary aggressive behavior but can leave long-lasting effects on the victim’s mental health and influence their ability to build healthy and balanced human relationships. She also presented a set of intervention suggestions and practical recommendations for preventing and addressing bullying, both on an individual and institutional level, emphasizing the importance of early psychological education and awareness.

The session included interactive activities in which students shared their personal experiences and perspectives, allowing them the opportunity to express themselves and engage actively in the discussion. This added a realistic and human dimension to the session and helped foster empathy and mutual understanding among the participants.

This session comes as part of the regularly organized projects by the students of the “Health Education” course, which aim to develop students’ skills in promoting health and psychological awareness within their communities and in linking academic knowledge with purposeful field practices that serve society.
